When people begin searching for wedding venues in Springfield, Illinois, they often find the choices they expect: hotels, banquet halls, clubs, church reception spaces, and traditional event centers. There is absolutely a place for traditional weddings. But when I designed Pole Barn Chic Events, I didn't want to create another room where people could simply hold a reception.

I wanted to create a place people would remember attending. I wanted guests to pull onto the property and think it was beautiful. I wanted parking to be easy. I wanted them to walk through the doors and immediately reach for their phones. I wanted them to eat well, dance, laugh, take pictures, and feel as though someone was paying attention to them. Most importantly, I wanted couples and their families to feel supported rather than simply handed the keys to a building. Yes, Pole Barn Chic Is a Barn. No, It Is Not Rustic.

Let's get this out of the way first. When people hear the words barn wedding venue, they often imagine weathered wood, burlap, mason jars, wagon wheels, sunflowers, and a building that has been converted from its original agricultural purpose.

That isn't Pole Barn Chic. There is absolutely nothing rustic about our interior—and that's intentional. Pole Barn Chic sits on an actual working crop farm, and I love the authenticity of that setting. Depending on the season, you may see corn, soybeans, combines, dust, farm equipment, crop-spraying equipment, and occasionally the farmers themselves.

I don't try to compete with that beauty. We let the farm be a farm—and we make the party glamorous. That contrast is one of my favorite things about PBC. Outside, couples can take photographs beside crops, around the pond, near the barn, along the fence, in the courtyard, and throughout the landscaped property. Then they walk inside and enter an entirely different world.

What Happens When Guests Walk Into Pole Barn Chic?

I've heard people yell. I've watched people become emotional. And I have watched a lot of people immediately grab their phones. That's the reaction I wanted when I designed this building. The main barn is approximately 80 feet long by 60 feet wide with ceilings reaching roughly 30 feet high. A massive garage-style door can open the room dramatically and is one of our favorite ways to create a grand reveal.

Then there is the ceiling. Pole Barn Chic has 14 eight-foot crystal chandeliers—12 suspended throughout the main ceiling and two more hanging inside our glass cupolas. And right in the middle of all that crystal? A four-foot spinning disco ball. Because why shouldn't there be?

Fourteen Crystal Chandeliers and One Giant Disco Ball

Lighting is one of my favorite elements of interior design. I've even designed custom lighting myself, so I knew from the beginning that PBC's lighting couldn't be an afterthought. We didn't install one chandelier over a dance floor and call it a day. We installed 14. Our chandeliers incorporate both chrome and gold elements so they complement a wide variety of jewel tones and wedding color palettes.

Two of those chandeliers are particularly special. One of Pole Barn Chic's most distinctive architectural features is its pair of glass cupolas, each suspending an eight-foot crystal chandelier—a combination we have yet to find duplicated at another wedding venue. At night, those illuminated chandeliers can be seen through the glass from outside the barn. Then there is that giant spinning disco ball hanging among all that crystal. Why? Because it's shiny. It's fun. It's unexpected. And people remember it.

Even the Bathrooms Were Designed to Be an Experience

I have a simple design philosophy: Every room should make you smile. Every picture should make you feel something. That includes the bathroom. The women's restroom has more than 250 disco balls suspended from the ceiling, along with a silver shimmer wall and high-end integrated sink fixtures that allow guests to wash and dry their hands at the same station. Meanwhile, the men's restroom has its own personality, including WWE wrestling imagery that has resulted in more than a few enthusiastic wrestling impersonations throughout the years. We didn't leave the “unimportant” rooms unfinished.

At Pole Barn Chic, we left no stone unturned.

A Working Illinois Farm Creates Photographs You Can't Manufacture

The glamour inside PBC doesn't mean we want to hide the farm outside. Quite the opposite.  The farm gives our property character. Couples can take photographs around the barn, pond, courtyard, fence, crops, landscaping, stonework, and other areas throughout the property. We currently have roughly 15 different photo opportunities, depending on the season and how you count them. We have even had couples travel from Florida to get married at Pole Barn Chic, in part because they wanted wedding photographs beside Illinois cornfields. That's something a ballroom simply can't manufacture. And from a wedding-budget standpoint, I think photo variety has real value. You hired a professional photographer. The more backgrounds and environments available without leaving the property, the more variety you can potentially capture during the time you've purchased. Your wedding venue isn't only where you get married. It's the backdrop for photographs you'll have for the rest of your life.

What If You Love Farm Weddings but Hate Rustic Décor?

So do we. Come on over. 😂 A farm wedding doesn't have to mean a rustic wedding. You can love cornfields, sunsets, open land, trees, ponds, and natural wedding photographs without wanting burlap anywhere near your reception. Even Our Tables Were Designed Differently We use handmade, extra-wide wooden tables.Why extra-wide? More room. People need space. Plates need space. Centerpieces need space. Drinks, phones, purses, silverware, napkins, favors, and everything else guests put on tables need space.A beautiful tablescape isn't very beautiful when everyone is crowded together.We also own wooden cross-back chairs in both white and brown, giving couples options for different wedding aesthetics.These details may not sound glamorous when you're initially shopping for a wedding venue.But once you're pricing tables, chairs, rentals, delivery, setup, and décor separately?They start to matter quite a bit.

Ceremony, Reception, Getting Ready and Photos Can All Happen Here

Convenience matters tremendously on a wedding day. Our primary ceremony space is our dedicated ceremony pad, but couples have also married inside the barn, beside the pond, in the front yard, and beneath a tent. We also provide separate getting-ready areas. One side of the wedding party can prepare in the house, including the upstairs bridal suite, while the groom's garage provides another space for the other side of the wedding party. Space is incredibly important to me. Wedding dresses are big. Hair teams take up space. Makeup artists take up space. Photographers need room to move. Parents and grandparents come in and out. Wedding mornings become stressful very quickly when everyone is piled on top of one another. Having the ceremony, getting-ready areas, reception, and numerous photography locations on the same property also helps eliminate unnecessary travel. If convenience and timing matter to you, we've put a lot of thought into both.

The Reception Is Where Pole Barn Chic Really Changes Personality

During the day, the barn can be bright, airy, elegant, and filled with crystal. Then the reception starts. The LED dance floor and uplighting come alive. The four-foot disco ball spins among the chandeliers. The DJ turns up the music. The huge door can open. And suddenly, the room has completely changed. We've had guests compare the energy to weddings they've experienced in Chicago, Miami, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles.

We aren't trying to pretend Springfield is Miami. We're proving that you don't have to leave Central Illinois to throw one heck of a party. Couples can also add enhancements such as confetti cannons, foam cannons, champagne walls, late-night snacks, and other reception experiences. Yes, we allow indoor confetti cannons. This may surprise people after I've spent all this time talking about chandeliers and disco balls. But if you ask me what truly separates Pole Barn Chic from a traditional wedding venue, my answer isn't the ceiling. It's the people. Pole Barn Chic is a locally owned, family-operated business—not a corporate event center. A building can't notice that Grandma is struggling to walk. A building can't see that Mom looks stressed. A building can't refill a drink. A building can't notice that the buffet line isn't flowing properly. A building can't pick something up before someone trips over it. A building can't notice that the dance floor is dying. People can. That's why staffing matters.

Guest Experience Is Our Number-One Priority

When I'm working a wedding, I'm watching things the couple probably doesn't even realize I'm watching. I'm watching buffet lines. Bar lines. Floors. Trash. Bathrooms. Ice. Tables. Potential tripping hazards. And yes, occasionally, rogue children. 😂 Our bathrooms are typically checked about every 15 minutes. We're monitoring trash, clearing items, replenishing supplies, watching ice levels, and paying attention to the property throughout the event. Most importantly, we're watching people. If someone looks unhappy, I want to know why. I'll walk over and ask. What's wrong? What do you need? How can I make this better? If our guests aren't happy, I don't feel like I've done my job.

Our Staff Is Allowed to Have Fun With You

This is another place where PBC may look different from a traditional hotel ballroom. Our employees participate. You may see staff doing the Wobble. You may see us join a conga line. We may participate in a dollar dance, throw party items onto the dance floor, dance behind the bar, or help get a crowd moving. And yes, I have been known to put flashing foam dance sticks into a man's suspenders. It's part of the vibe. Professionalism doesn't require standing expressionless against a wall. We know when to step forward and create energy. We also know when to disappear into the background and let the couple shine. That comes from experience.

What Happens When the Dance Floor Dies?

We notice. Sometimes a crowd needs the Wobble. Sometimes it needs the Cha Cha Slide. And sometimes it simply needs somebody willing to get out there first. We'll do that. A reception is supposed to feel like a celebration. I want people leaving Pole Barn Chic saying: “That was one of the best weddings I've ever attended. I hope I get invited to another one there.” That's the goal.

We Treat Wedding Vendors Like Family, Too

Our hospitality doesn't stop with paying guests. Photographers, DJs, caterers, florists, officiants, and other wedding professionals are helping us create the same event. We treat them accordingly. Our vendors don't need to disappear into a back room and eat alone. When appropriate, they're welcome to sit with our team at the bar and eat with us. We communicate with vendors throughout the process because a successful wedding requires everyone to work together. When the vendors are supported, they're better positioned to do great work for the couple.

What Happens Before Wedding Day Matters, Too

A wedding venue experience shouldn't begin when the doors open on Saturday. Communication during the months leading up to a wedding matters tremendously. At PBC, we stay in close contact with our couples and provide extensive planning information. Couples can meet with us as often as needed during our regular planning availability. Our standard availability for meetings and planning communication is Tuesday through Thursday. Fridays through Sundays are generally devoted to events, and Mondays are our day off. That said, I am notoriously accessible. If I'm awake and see a message, there's a good chance I'll answer it. Wedding ideas and questions apparently don't understand business hours.

This is another major difference between renting a venue and purchasing professional wedding support. Nobody knows our building like we do. We know where the fuse boxes are. We know where the extra forks are. We know our inventory. We know our policies. We know which doors need to open. We know where vendors should go. We know what happens when something doesn't go according to plan. An outside planner can be extremely talented, but when working at an unfamiliar venue, that planner still needs information from the people who know the property. That's one reason we offer our own coordination package. We eliminate the middleman. You tell us what you want. We build the plan with you. Then we execute the responsibilities included in your package.

Rental-Only and Coordination Are Not the Same Experience

This distinction is extremely important. A rental-only wedding is essentially a DIY wedding. You have the spaces and the items included with your rental, but you aren't purchasing the same hands-on assistance provided through professional coordination. That means you need people outside your wedding party who can handle the responsibilities that remain with you.

With coordination, our team handles an enormous number of things couples and guests may never notice: cutting cake, replenishing ice, managing personal items, clearing trash, collecting belongings from getting-ready spaces, working with vendors, and solving countless small problems throughout the day. The best coordination is often invisible.

You don't know what went wrong because somebody fixed it before it became your problem.

Luxury isn't just crystal chandeliers. Sometimes luxury means not having to struggle. Pole Barn Chic is designed to be accessible, with designated accessible parking and event areas that accommodate guests with mobility needs. We can position seating near entrances and assist guests when additional help is needed. Our parking is paved, illuminated, and immediately accessible to the major event areas. And although guests regularly tell us Pole Barn Chic feels like it's out in the country, we're remarkably close to Springfield conveniences.

That matters. Forgot something? Need a pharmacy? Need a hotel? Need coffee? Need a last-minute wedding item? No. We've hosted very elegant, traditional weddings. If you want a formal celebration, we can absolutely create one. What you won't find here is a venue committed to a rustic identity. If your dream wedding revolves entirely around burlap, mason jars, hay bales, and intentionally rustic décor, we may simply not be the best match. And that's okay. Every venue shouldn't be right for every couple. The same is true if your only wedding priority is finding the cheapest possible building to rent.
