If you're a bridesmaid heading to Pole Barn Chic Events in Springfield, Illinois, knowing what to bring—and what you can leave at home—can make the entire day easier.
The good news? You don't need to pack the whole house.
Pole Barn Chic is designed to make wedding day comfortable and enjoyable for the bridal party. We want bridesmaids spending their morning laughing, getting ready, taking pictures and celebrating the bride—not worrying about hauling unnecessary supplies into the venue.
Here is our practical bridesmaid wedding-day packing checklist, including a few things you definitely do not need to bring to Pole Barn Chic.
First: What Should Every Bridesmaid Bring?
Think about your wedding-day bag in three categories: what you need to get ready, what you need to wear, and what might save the day.
A little preparation can prevent someone from having to make a last-minute trip to the store.
Your Bridesmaid Dress
This one seems obvious, but wedding mornings are busy!
Before leaving home, make sure you have your bridesmaid dress, jumpsuit or other wedding attire. If your dress has a separate belt, sash, removable straps or other accessories, keep everything together.
We recommend transporting your dress in a garment bag and hanging it up as soon as you arrive.
And before wedding weekend, try your dress on one final time.
Don't wait until wedding morning to discover a zipper problem, missing button or alteration issue.
Don't Forget the Right Undergarments
Your beautiful bridesmaid dress may require more underneath it than you realize.
Depending on the style, remember to pack the appropriate:
Bra or strapless bra
Shapewear
Seamless underwear
Nipple covers or fashion tape
Slip, if necessary
Hosiery, if you're wearing it
Most importantly, try everything on together before the wedding day.
The wedding morning is not the ideal time to discover that your bra shows above the back of your dress or your shapewear creates a line you weren't expecting.
Your Wedding Shoes—and Comfortable Backup Shoes
Bring the shoes you're expected to wear for the ceremony and formal photographs.
But here's our second recommendation:
Bring comfortable shoes, too.
After the ceremony and formal photographs are finished, you may be very happy to trade those heels for flats, sandals or comfortable dancing shoes.
Just make sure your backup shoes are appropriate for the wedding and easy to identify as yours.
Your feet will thank you later!
Jewelry and Wedding-Day Accessories
If the bride has selected specific jewelry or accessories for the bridal party, pack them together in a small bag or jewelry case.
This may include earrings, necklaces, bracelets, hair accessories or other pieces.
If the bride gave you your jewelry several months before the wedding, don't assume you'll remember where you put it on wedding morning.
Find it the week before. Trust us on this one.
Hair and Makeup Essentials
Even when professional hair and makeup artists are coming to Pole Barn Chic, bridesmaids should bring their personal essentials.
Your stylist may provide most of what is necessary, but it's smart to have your own preferred products available.
Consider bringing your foundation or concealer shade, lipstick or lip gloss for touch-ups, mascara, deodorant, perfume, hairbrush or comb and any specialty hair products you know you need.
One particularly important item?
Your lipstick.
Your makeup may look perfect at 11:00 AM, but after eating, drinking, smiling, talking and taking hundreds of photographs, you're probably going to want a touch-up before the reception.
Bring a Button-Down Shirt or Getting-Ready Outfit
If you're having your hair and makeup professionally done, don't arrive wearing something that has to be pulled over your head afterward.
A button-down shirt, robe, zip-up sweatshirt or designated bridal-party getting-ready outfit is much easier.
This helps protect both your hair and makeup when it's time to change into your bridesmaid dress.
And if the photographer is taking getting-ready photographs, coordinate with the bride beforehand. She may already have robes, pajamas or another matching outfit planned for everyone.
Your Phone Charger
Yes. Bring it. We do have a phone charging station, but you’ll be competing with dozens of other people, so definitely bring your own as a backup.
Wedding days are long, and bridesmaids use their phones for everything—photos, videos, communicating with family members, checking the timeline and occasionally locating a missing groomsman.
A portable power bank can be even better because you aren't dependent on finding an available outlet.
Just remember: once the ceremony begins, put the phone away unless the couple has specifically requested otherwise.
Let the professional photographer capture the ceremony while you enjoy being part of it.
A Small Emergency Kit Is Not Necessary
At Pole Barn Chic we already offer safety pins, fashion tape, a small sewing kit, stain remover, tissues, Band-Aids, bobby pins, hair ties, breath mints and feminine hygiene products.
You may never touch the bag. But we do have it if you need it. However, if you want to make your own emergency bag, that’s totally fine!
Prescription Medications and Personal Necessities
Anything you personally need throughout a normal day should come with you.
That includes prescription medications, contact lenses, glasses, allergy supplies or other personal necessities.
Don't assume someone else will have what you need.
Snacks and Water
Wedding days can be surprisingly long, and bridesmaids sometimes forget to eat.
Bring a few easy, non-messy snacks if needed, especially if you have dietary restrictions or know you'll need something between scheduled meals.
Choose foods that won't stain dresses, leave crumbs everywhere or create a mess in the getting-ready areas.
And drink water!
There will be plenty happening throughout the day, and staying hydrated is important—particularly during warm-weather outdoor photographs and ceremonies.
What You DON'T Need to Bring to Pole Barn Chic
Now we get to the easy part.
There are a few things bridesmaids sometimes assume they need to pack that you can happily leave at home when you're celebrating at Pole Barn Chic.
🍾 You Do NOT Need to Bring Alcohol
Please leave the alcohol at home.
Outside alcohol is not permitted at Pole Barn Chic Events.
Pole Barn Chic has its own liquor license, and we sell and serve the alcohol on our property. That means bridesmaids don't need to stop at the liquor store on the way to the venue or arrive with bottles tucked into their bags.
We have you covered.
If mimosas, champagne or another drink is part of the wedding-day plans, those arrangements should be made through Pole Barn Chic.
This isn't simply a preference—it is an important part of operating responsibly under our liquor license.
So bridesmaids, cross "bring the booze" right off your packing list.
🎶 You Definitely Don't Need a Bluetooth Speaker
This may be one of our favorite things to tell bridal parties.
Don't bring your Bluetooth speaker.
Seriously.
At Pole Barn Chic, we love music.
Music is part of the atmosphere here, and we have it playing throughout the property. We want wedding mornings to feel exciting from the moment the bridal party arrives.
Getting ready should be fun!!
There should be music playing, people laughing, bridesmaids singing along, hair and makeup happening and excitement building as ceremony time gets closer.
You don't need to worry about packing a speaker, charging it, connecting everyone's phones or figuring out who's controlling the playlist.
We've got the music covered.
Don't Bring Too Much Stuff
This is one of the most helpful pieces of advice we can give bridesmaids.
Try not to bring five bags when one or two will do.
Remember that everything you bring into the venue eventually has to leave again.
At the end of a long wedding night, nobody wants to figure out who owns three tote bags, two coolers, six makeup cases, an abandoned sweatshirt and a mystery pair of shoes.
Label your belongings when possible and consolidate.
Even better, designate one area for personal belongings so they're easy to locate at the end of the evening.

Bring good energy.

And she'll remember the people who helped keep the day calm when something didn't go exactly according to plan.

It's about showing up for someone you love.
Help when you're needed. Be ready when the photographer needs you. Keep track of your belongings. Follow the timeline. Encourage the bride to eat and drink some water. And when it's time to celebrate, get out there and celebrate with her.
